Fun Headbands with Petaloo and Shimmerz Paints

I absolutely loved playing with the Color Me Crazy Petaloo Flowers this Month, what a fun treat! I made a "headband"....a little bit of a crazy headband, but hey I guess the name of the flowers just got to my head. ;) The best part is that you can use customize the petaloo flowers for whatever your project may be just by using Shimmerz, Blingz, Spritz, Vibez or Pearlz!!

Hope this give you some fun ideas using Shimmerz and Petaloo Products....remember it doesn't always have to be about "paper". ;) There are lots of ways to play!! Thanks so much for watching, have a fabulous day! ((hugs))

Even More Inspiration!

Are you having fun yet? I know that I have been totally inspired by our team and their creative use of both Shimmerz and Petaloo products! Each project shows just how versatile our different paints are and how well they pair up with Petaloo Color Me Crazy flowers.

Here is some more eye candy and ideas for you!

By Design Team Member Tajanee White:
"The scalloped Maya Road chipboard banner, and small Petaloo flower were both painted with Shimmerz 'BlueBerry Cobbler', once that was dry I added a coat of Blingz in 'Hi Ho Silver'. I used a medium white Petaloo flower and sprayed it with Vibez 'Sunset Strip', then painted Blingz 'Pixie Dust' on top for additional shine. Then I finished it off with a large white Petaloo flower and sprayed a heavy coat of Vibez 'Hermit the Frog'. Once that dried I painted a coat of Blingz 'Pixie Dust' onto the flowers, and cut the flowers in half. I layered the rest of my embellishments.
The Petaloo flower at the top of the layout was painted with Shimmerz in 'Carmel'. I didn't add anything additional to that flower. The shine was perfect for the flower to be layered underneath the bird."

By Design Team Member Gayle Martin:
"The first flower and the last flower are the same. The white flower is two sizes of flowers glued together and the center is a pom pom from ball fringe trim that is added at the end. The white flowers are spritzed with Shimmerz Baby's Breath paint.

The peach daisy is two flowers of the same size painted Shimmerz Carribbean Sunset and glued together. The petal edges are brushed with Shimmerz Island Salsa. When they have dried I added a foam ball to the center that is painted with Shimmerz Island Salsa. The two levels of flower petals are built up with Helmar 450 quick dry adhesive to create dimension and the foam center is attached with the same adhesive.

The yellow flower is made up of three layer of petals spritzed with Shimmerz Sunset Strip and then I painted the tips of the petals with Sunflower. The center of the yellow flower is white small petals painted with Shimmerz Baby's Breath.

The large peach flower started as large white flowers with huge round petals. I cut each petal in small strips and them rolled and curled them to create a lacy effect for this flower. The paints that I used on the flower are Shimmerz Carribbean Sunset, Razzle dazzle Berry in the center of the flower, I used Shimmerz Island Sunset on the edges of the petals.

This was a really fun project I hope you get the opportunity to create your own floral creations using Shimmerz and Petaloo products."

By Education Team Member Bethany Kartchner:
"I love the gorgeous imperfections of real flowers. If you look closely, they are rarely one solid color. There are slight variations in hue, spots that are uncolored and wrinkles in the petals. When I make flowers for my projects, I try to replicate those variations that occur in nature. Layering paper flowers gives them wonderful dimension especially when you scrunch and smoosh them in your palm. I love to use at least two different Shimmerz Spritz or Vibez colors when I make my flowers. I line my flowers up by size and I spritz them. (On this project, I used RazzleDazzle Berry.) I make sure to spritz more on the bigger flowers (that will be on the outside) and less on the smaller flowers. The smallest flower gets a very light spritz of my first color and a large dose of my second color. (On this project, I used Sunset Strip.) I allow the flowers to almost dry before I adhere each layer and finish off with a few seed beads in the center. I love using white Petaloo flowers because they come in many different sizes that fit together perfectly to make beautifully layered 3-dimensional works. In order to personalize my flowers, my medium of choice is Shimmerz Vibez (if you're looking for a more intense color) and Shimmerz Spritz (if you'd like a lighter wash of color). The shimmer is gorgeous and the coverage is amazing. Plus, you can create very subtle variations in color that make your flowers appear like you just picked them from the garden. No green thumbs required!"

By Design Team Member Deanna Kroll:
“I love to color my flowers, and I found it really easy to mix colors on the Petaloo flowers. I first sprayed with my Shimmerz Spritz and Shimmerz Vibez allowed them to dry and then dabbed other coats of Shimmerz and Shimmerz Blingz to give the colors a multi color feel to them. I love the colors that these created and the Shimmerz paints work so well with the Petaloo flowers to make some shimmery fun!”

Soo many ways to use both of these products and I can't think of a better way to celebrate the beautiful and inspiring colors of spring.
Once again, a huge thank you to Petaloo for their generosity in supplying our entire design team with their Color Me Crazy flowers. We truly had a great time with them!

Stay tuned tomorrow as we close the week out! Even more is in store.

Shimmering Blooms

Isn't Spring wonderful? All the flowers in the garden make my heart sing. It is also blooming here at Shimmerz! I've really enjoyed playing around with my Shimmerz and Petaloo flowers. In my video, I show you how to decorate a metal frame that I purchased at Target using white Petaloo flowers and Shimmerz Spritz and Pearlz.

The technique is very simple, but the results are stunning. (Of course, it doesn't hurt that the girl in the pic is adorable...giggle...)

You can see the detail in the following close-up shots.

In the video, I used the following Shimmerz products that you can purchase here.

Baby's Breath Spritz (on flowers)
Snow Storm Vibez (on flowers)
Ballet Slipper Pearlz (on flowers)
Gold Glimmer Blingz (on flowers)
Pixie Dust Blingz (on frame)

Happy Shimmering!

Shimmerz+Petaloo=Match Made in Heaven!

This week Shimmerz and Petaloo are joining forces to bring you some fabulous project ideas! Our design team has been having a blast working with Petaloo's Color Me Crazy flowers. Made from mulberry paper, Petaloo's flowers come in 9 different varieties and are a perfect match for Shimmerz Paints! They absorb our Vibez, Spritz and Pearlz but still leave behind our beautiful Shimmerz signature shine!

Here are some examples of Shimmerz and Petaloo in action!

By Design Team Member Jana Eubank:

"My favorite thing about working with Petaloo flowers is that I am able to customize them with my Shimmerz to match my page exactly!

Here on this page I used Princess Vibez and Plum Pudding Spritz to color my flowers. While spraying them, I allowed my index finger to intercept the mist causing large drops of color in random places on the flowers.

I LOVE the way this looks. Next, I pressed my flowers into the puddles and drips from the overspray. I allowed the colors to mix for a variegated look. I LOVE the way they turned out!

The result is very artistic! Finally, I added two more layers of patterned paper flowers using Martha Stewart Craft punches. I secured everything together with a Making Memories brad. Patterned papers and diecuts are by My Mind's Eye."

By Design Team Member Lori Renn:

"For this project I used Teresa Collins Ballet Slipper and Morning Mist Pearlz on the Petaloo flowers for a soft opaque look. I also used the Shimmerz Pearlz on the title banner, the chipboard embellishments, the transparency and the edges of the papers.

Petaloo flowers and Shimmerz Paints are a match made in heaven! I used every type of Shimmerz products on the flowers for numerous projects and I was thrilled with the results. The colors really pop and they are true because the flowers are all white with a totally matte finish. You can really see the "shimmer" on them as well!"

And our last project for today By Design Team Member Stacy Cohen:

"I’m very big on sending thank you cards, so I like to keep a stash of handmade ones on hand. Here’s a simple thank you card I made using Shimmerz and white Petaloo flowers. I used the large Petaloo flower as a mask on white cardstock, sprayed it with Jeni-B-Blue Vibez, then I cut around the outline and added a little Tickle-Me-Turquoise Shimmerz paint to the edge of the cardstock flower. I layered the sprayed Petaloo flower on top of the masked cardstock flower. I sprayed and/or painted the other beautiful Petaloo flowers with Sapphire Spritz, Wintergreen and Tickle-Me-Turquoise Shimmerz. I painted the handcut leaves with Celery Shimmerz. I just LOVE the way the white Petaloo flowers absorb the Shimmerz products. Shimmerz and Petaloo are a perfect match."
So there you have it, 3 beautiful projects each unique and showcasing several different techniques! You can see why we are all loopy for Petaloo!

A Huge thanks goes out to Petaloo for their kind donation of flowers for our ENTIRE design team.
Stay tuned for more projects throughout the week.

A box for a sewing emergency kit

I think it's a good idea using the Shimmerz produtcs for the detail of our creations.

I used an old box to turn it into a sewing emergency kit.

First, I colored the inner of the box with burgundy acrylic and then I used Penny Pincher Vibez with a brush. I covered the box with a red and white colth.

On the white cloth in the center I brushed Angel Wing Shimmerz.

Angel Wing Shimmerz, Snow Storm Vibez and Babys Breath Shimmerz Spritz are very brigt and they can give a new aspect to thecolors: they will sparkle!

Have a great day with creativity!

Roberta

One hot color/one hot momma: Jeni B Bleu

An unnamed number of years ago one of my favorite people came to be....Miss Jeni Boisvert! And thank heavens for that. Jeni has become one of my closest friends and biggest inspirations. In fact, she is soo inspiring that Stacey has named a Shimmerz color after her: Jeni B. Bleu
and needless to say, Jeni B. Bleu has become a favorite color of mine. It's color is so vibrant and versatile. It literally can go with almost ANY project that I am working on and has quickly become my go to color. Just like Jeni is my go to friend!

So today we honor one hot momma and the special color that is her namesake: JENI B BLEU

Share your love of Jeni B Bleu with us, if you have created a project using Jeni B Bleu, send us a link!
And HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU JENI! We love ya!...........................ps, don't shoot me ok ;)

Earth Day

made a few special projects for Earth day. I feel that with all the changes that the Earth has been going through with global warming, the earth quake's, volcano's exploding and everything else that is really causing the Earth to be imbalanced, that it's really important that everyone concentrate on doing something good for the Earth. Gavin was born on Earth day - six years ago today, and for that reason, I want to see him enjoy Earth and all of it's natural beauty as much as I and past generations have been able to.  To honor Earth day, I made this beautiful layout, using a recycled cardboard for my background and then by using up some of my scraps of pattern paper. The theme today is Earth, and this layout "Save the Earth" talks about what I pray for when it comes to making the Earth a little better for my son and for future generations.

I added some of my Shimmerz paint in Blueberry Cobbler to the upper corner that is torn on the cardboard...look at how beautifully it shines!

I also sprayed the edges with my Shimmerz Spritz in Truffle to give this layout a little extra sheen. Again, just look at how beautifully the colors shine and how subtle this color is with the cardboard.

I really love how the cluster of flowers an also the title turned out, this layout was just too fun to make!

Such a fun layout and while promoting Mother Earth and her importance!

Easy to Love

I recently did a photo shoot with my son in our front and back yard, and of course had to start scrapping the photos right away. I love the way these turned out, and love the fact that my Shimmerz helps bring out the true beauty of these photos.

I wanted to create a fun and whimsical feel to this layout, and I decided to have some fun with coloring my flowers on the page. This is an easy and fun tip to do to color your own flowers when you want to. What I did was used some plastic wrap, poured some colors onto the plastic wrap from my Shimmerz paints, for the first set of colors I used Shimmerz in Marigold, Sunny, and Fire Engine Red. For the second set of color I used my Shimmerz Tickle-Me-Turquoise, Vintage Wine, and Sugar Plum. I then I took a toothpic and swirled the colors together, just to get the colors together versus being seperate colors. Then I took the flowers and just placed them on top of the colors, lifted them up and the colors were right there on the flowers. Some white was showing through, so I just used my finger as a paintbrush and added some extra color in the areas that were still white. For the more pastel looking flowers, I used my Shimmerz Spritz in Rock-a-Fella Blue and Cotton Candy and with the second flower, Shimmerz Spriz in Tuscan Sun and Bed of Roses, as these made a very pretty combination. I sprayed half and half of the flowers with 2 colors. I wanted a little extra shine on these two, so once they were completely dry, I used my Shimmerz in Angel Wings and painted on top of the flowers. Seeing as this is more translucent the original colors still show through, just with more shimmer.
On the chipboard piece, it was originally white as well, and I wanted it to match my color palette a lot better, so I went ahead and used my Shimmerz Spritz in Eucalyptus and sprayed two coats onto the chipboard. With the second coat, while it was still wet, I added some clear embossing powder and then went ahead and heat set it. It lets the color show through, but in person gives such a nice little texture to the chipboard piece.

The thing I love about this layout is that even though I am using a lot of "girly" elements, the pages still kept it's masculinity and really shows off my son and my Shimmerz paints! Thanks for coming by today!

Sparkles for Spring

I was recently inspired by this project idea and decided to create my own based on this design.

I started with some fun papers from My Mind's Eye called Quite Contrary. I used Tickle-Me-Turquoise to paint my circle stamp. I really like how the Shimmerz paint filled in around the edges of the stamp providing more definition to each circle. Then, using Celery, I painted the edges of the butterfly for a distressed and sharper pop. Finally, I chose three polka dots on the butterfly wings to paint with Hi Ho Silver.

I am proudly displaying my little happiness of spring on the mantle in my living room.
It must be working...it was 70 degrees and sunny here today! Do you have a little happy in your spring?

Rain or Shine

Hello, Shimmerz fans!

On this layout I used Sunset Strip Vibez to really brighten up the look of the page. The background paper (from Jenni Bowlin) was white with a very pale yellow edge. I wanted to change the look and really make the colors pop so I Spritzed it with some Vibez. I also used the Vibez on the banner title and the journaling spots.

We are enjoying lots of "shine" here in Eagle, Idaho today. :)

Blessings to you,
Lori

Yep . . . that's how they roll

Everytime I see patterned paper with a tree, I immediately think about cutting it out and painting the leaves and branches with my beautiful Shimmerz paints. This page features pictures of my little girlies rolling down the hill at the local park.  By the time they got to the bottom, they were laughing so hard!
I handcut the tree from Webster's Pages paper and painted the leaves and branches with Green Olive, Celery and Choc-o-lot Shimmerz paint:

 Until next time!

Highlighting with Shimmerz

Hello! Christine here with a project that I created for last week's Creative Therapy prompt. It asked "Are you proud of who you are?" and the following project is my interpretation of it. I will also share how I highlighted different elements on this project using different Shimmerz products.

I used a piece of cardboard as the foundation for this project, and I used Before Dawn Vibez to add some color to the distressed edges of the cardboard. To complement the raw color of the cardboard, I splattered some Penny Pincher and Before Dawn Vibez onto it before laying down the papers and embellishments.

Next, I highlighted the harlequin patterned paper by painting some Coal Shimmerz paint onto the black diamonds. I love how it brings attention to the pattern in a pretty, shimmery way!

Next, I painted the metal nameplate with gesso and covered that with Coal Shimmerz paint for a distressed look. I included vintage flowers painted with Angel Wings Shimmerz and Gold Glimmer Blingz, and finished the project with some crinkled seam binding ribbons that was "aged" with some Penny Pincher Vibez.

I hope that this gives you some ideas for highlighting some elements on your next project! Thanks for visiting today, and I hope you continue to enjoy the creative process using Shimmerz!
